In the event that a hazardous liquid is spilled in the ocean, oil booms get deployed to surround the region. They serve as a floating barrier and either deflect or contain the spill in one place until it can be cleaned up. Typically, marine-grade foam is used to give buoyancy in oil booms, which are constructed of polyethylene. A suitable height polyethylene curtain is used to stop the liquids in their tracks.
